Northwest PA’s Grant Resource Center

Free Classes

Grant Resource Center classes will resume winter 2009.  Please watch this space and the local newspapers for class announcements.

Below are the classes typically offered.  If there is a class you would like to see offered, please (please!) let me know.  And, as always, if you have a question, feel free to call the library or email me at  katebfpl{at}gmail{dot}com.

    • Foundation Directory Online Basics

Join us for a one hour introduction to the nation’s premiere grantseeking database, the Foundation Directory Online.  This comprehensive database features profiles of more than 92,000 foundations, and you can access it for free at the Grant Resource Center.  You’ll learn how to create customized searches and develop targeted lists of foundations that will match your nonprofit’s funding needs.

Classes are held at the Franklin Public Library, in the second floor meeting room.  Registration is required.

    • Proposal Writing Basics

The Proposal Writing Basics workshop is for non-profits who are new to the grantwriting process.  The class is tailored to either foundation or government funders.  This is a workshop, so come with a project in mind and work on your proposals as we teach!

Topics we will cover include planning to write and gathering information, writing the various components such as statement of need and project description, packaging the proposal, and following up.

Registration is required, and this class is very popular, so please register early!

    • Foundation Support for Your Education

The Foundation Center’s Foundation Grants to Individuals database contains records on more than 6,500 foundation and public charity programs that fund students, artists, researchers, and other individual grantseekers.   The database is the only online resource devoted to individual grantseekers.

This one hour class will teach you how to find foundations that provide different types of support  (scholarships, fellowships, loans, and internships) for undergraduate, graduate, or doctoral study; support to graduates of specific high schools; support for students of specific colleges; and research and professional support.

Classes are held at the Franklin Public Library, in the second floor meeting room.  Registration is required.

    • Using Grants.gov

The Grants.gov session will cover how to find and apply for federal grants at no cost. The session will walk you through the various options to search for federal funding opportunities, as well as the key components of the Apply process, including registration.

This unique one hour session will be conducted with a remote Grants.gov representative, and they will be able to answer any questions you may have.
